PORT ROYAL - Reba E. Koons, 87, of 307 Market St., Port Royal, died at 4:15 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2003, at her home.
Born June 8, 1915, in Turbett Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Holmes E. and Martha M. (Book) Groninger. Her first husband, W. Ross Gilson, died Nov. 13, 1944. Her second husband, William E. Koons, died July 13, 1968.
Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. C. Ernest (Jane Ann) Foltz, Dillsburg, and Mrs. Fred A. (Dr. Mary Martha) Harris, HC 63, Mifflintown; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, William E. Koons on June 21, 1972 and a sister, Jane B. Smith.
She was a retired Elementary School Teacher, having taught at Mount Hope School, Turbett Township, and at the Tuscarora Valley Elementary School, Port Royal, with 25 years of service. She was a 1933 graduate of the Port Royal High School. She was also a graduate of West Chester Normal School and the Shippensburg University.
She was a member of Port Royal Presbyterian Church where she served as a former trustee. She was a member and treasurer of the Victory Sunday School Class of the church. Mrs. Koons was also a member of Juniata County Retired School Teachers Association and the Port Royal Book Club.
Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with Rev. Carol E. Davis officiating. Interment will be in New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.
