CHARLES R. ‘BUZZ’ MCKARCHEY SR.

PORT ROYAL - Charles R. "Buzz" McKarchey Sr., 90, of Tuscarora, passed away at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at his home.

Born Feb. 9, 1922, in Van Dyke, he was the son of the late John and Pauline (Galeman) McKarchey. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jean Elizabeth (Baughman) McKarchey, whom he married June 9, 1948.

Also surviving are: two children, Tammy L. Dorward and fiance, David J. Britcher, of Mifflintown, and Charles R. "Buzzie" McKarchey Jr. and wife, Lori A., of Port Royal; one sister, Vera Gordon, of McAlisterville; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: one daughter, Shirley Jean McKarchey; four brothers and four sisters.

Buzz was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II. He was a blacksmith at Van Dyke Brick Plant and worked for Arch Rock Paving and Faylor-Middlecreek.

He was a member of the Juniata Sportsmen's Association, the NRA and was a 55-year member of Turbett Grange.

He could play any instrument he picked up and was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He enjoyed telling about his trip in 1960 to the ringneck farm above East Waterford where he paid $10.00 for all the ringnecks you could shoot with a bow and arrow. That day, he shot seven ringnecks.

His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Guss Funeral Home, Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Frank Swartz officiating. Interment will be in the New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal, where military honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.

There will be a viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 20, at the funeral home.
