OBITUARY for JAMES R. DOWLING, SR

James R. Dowling, Sr., 82, of Manchester, passed away, Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Seaton Springwood in York.

James was born September 10, 1940, in Lewistown, PA and was the son of the late Warren and Madeline (Landis) Dowling.

(He attended Tuscarora Valley High School in Port Royal, PA.)

He was employed for over 35 years with Osram Sylvania in York as a Tool and Die Maker before retiring. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed going with friends and family to their cabin and loved bowling and golfing.

James is survived by his son, Mike Dowling of Manchester; his daughters, Carla Miller and her husband Brent of Dover, and Teresa Shaffer and her husband Mike of VA; Six grandchildren; five great grandchildren, and his brothers, Warren J. Dowling of Buffalo, NY, Robert D. Dowling of Perry County, PA, Fred Dowling of Port Royal, PA, and Charles R. Dowling of McAlisterville, PA. James was preceded in death by his son, James R. Dowling, Jr., and his sister, Barbara Stimeling.

His Celebration of Life service will begin at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 25, 2023, at Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 87 South Main Street, Mount Wolf. His visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, Friday at the funeral home. His burial will be private. Officiating at his service will be Reverend Laura Bair Baker from Starview United Church of Christ.
