OBITUARY:
SPRUCE HILL, Frances Insley Lee, 93, of Spruce Hill, died at 10:50 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at her daughter's home.
Born on Oct. 30, 1915, in Spruce Hill Township, Juniata County, she is a daughter of the late Walter and Helen (Esh) Insley. Her husband, Stanley L. Lee, whom she married May 23, 1942, preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1957.
Surviving are: her children, David E. Lee and his wife, Polly, of Port Royal, Mary Louise Bell and her husband, James, of Port Royal (Spruce Hill); and she leaves behind four grandchildren, Master Sgt. Emily Sheppard and her husband, Kurt, of Las Vegas, Nev., Stanley Lee, of Port Royal, John W. Bell and his wife, Jennifer, of McAlisterville and Master Sgt. Glenda Ipock and her husband, James, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and 10 great-grandchildren.
One son, John Walter Lee, preceded her in death on Feb. 18,1971.
She was a graduate of Mifflintown High School.
Frances was an active member of the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, Academia, where she was an elder, served as a Sunday school teacher and served as the Secretary and Treasurer of the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Cemetery Association for many years.
She was also a life member of the Spruce Hill Grange, No. 772.
Mrs. Lee was a licensed practical nurse, who started her career at Brookline Manor, Mifflintown and then a nursing home in Snyder County, until retiring from the Mifflin-Juniata Community Nursing Service in 1977. At one time she also owned the former Mifflintown News Agency.
Frances enjoyed camping and gardening as well as crocheting and reading.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. D.D. "Buddy" Wheat officiating. Interment will be in the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Cemetery, Academia.
Viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at the funeral home.
