OBITUARY for DEAN E. ‘LINDY’ LINDEMUTH

PORT ROYAL — DEAN E. ‘LINDY’ LINDEMUTH, 83, of Port Royal, died on June 19, 2008, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.

Born on July 5, 1924, in Bloomsburg, he was the son of the late Harry O. and Frances (Bucher) Lindemuth. His wife, Frances (Gilson) Lindemuth, preceded him in death on March 10, 2005.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. David (Sherry L.) Reynolds, of Middletown; sister, Sue Marie Shellenberger and husband Herman, of Catawissa; grandsons, Todd Reynolds, of Marysville, and Joel Reynolds, of Providence, R.I.; and several nieces and nephews.

He retired as a corporal from the Pennsylvania State Police Lewistown barracks in 1973 after 25 years of service.

Following his retirement, he was a rural delivery mail carrier for the Port Royal Post Office. He also worked at Kohler Farm Supply, Port Royal.

He was a United States Army World War II veteran of the 3rd Army-4th Armored Division which was the division under General George S. Patton. He was honorably discharged December 1945 after serving in France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany, and Czechoslovakia. He was awarded many metals and certificates honoring his service. He was awarded a Presidential Citation.

He was a member of the Port Royal Lutheran Church, the Retired State Police Assn., the Pennsylvania State Trooper Assn., past commander of VFW Post 5863, Mifflintown, American Legion Post 298, Mifflintown, Lewistown Masonic Lodge 203 F&AM., Harrisburg Consistory Scottish Rite of Free Masonary, and Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Juniata Valley Forest No. 88.

He was a member of Turbett Grange 781 and Juniata Saddle Horse Assn. He was president of Old Church Hill Cemetery Assn. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and playing his Dobro guitar.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24, at Port Royal Lutheran Church, Port Royal with Rev. Charles L. Hershberger officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.

A viewing will be held on Monday, June 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Rex Funeral Home, 308 Market St., Port Royal.
