OBITUARY for DOROTHY ERNEST STIMMEL

Dorothy Ernest Stimmel, 92, of Harrisburg, died Friday, December 3, 2010, at Homeland Center.

Born March 23, 1918, in Mifflin, she was the daughter of the late Burns Thompson and Ola Glen [Rowe] Ernest. Her husband J. Robert Stimmel preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Gary Walker Stimmel; one brother, Burns Thompson Ernest, Jr.; four sisters, Evelyn Pandel, Lois Cunningham, and twins, Mildred Beale and Miriam Bitting.

She is survived by two sons, Joseph R. and wife Virginia, and Benjamin H. and wife Jane of Harrisburg; one sister Janet Cascarelli and husband Don of Hillsdale, MI; four grandchildren, Jason Stimmel and wife Diana of State College, Elena Stimmel of Lancaster, Sarah Stimmel of Harrisburg; and two great granddaughters, Bryanna and Anna.

Dorothy graduated from Mifflintown High School and Central Penn Business School. After marrying, she and her husband operated the Stimmel Funeral Home in Port Royal until they retired from the funeral business in 1972 and moved to Selinsgrove. She moved to Harrisburg in 1983, following her husband’s death.

Dorothy was devoted to “her boys,” their families, and was always interested in her brother, sisters and their families. She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church and had been very involved in church activities.

A memorial service will be held at Geigle Funeral Home, 2100 Linglestown Road on Friday, December 10, 2010, at 11:30 a.m. A private burial will be in New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal. There will be a visitation prior to the service from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Presbyterian Church, 1801 Colonial Road, Harrisburg, PA 17112, or Homeland Center, 2300 Varian Way #205 Harrisburg, PA 17110.
