Ed Leonard was a son of Charles Allen and Louella (Maffett) Leonard.
OBITUARY for CHARLES EDGAR “ED” LEONARD
PORT ROYAL - Charles Edgar "Ed" Leonard, 82, of Fourth Street, Port Royal, died at noon, Friday July 9, 2010 at the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.
Born March 9, 1928, in Port Royal, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Luella (Maffet) Leonard. His wife, Phyllis E. (Emery) Leonard, whom he married Feb. 23, 1951, survives.
Also surviving are two sons and a daughter, Stephen G. Leonard and wife Holly of Millerstown, I. Andrew Leonard of Tijeras, N.M., and Jill E. Leonard-Perez and husband Ralph of Mifflintown; a sister, Sarah Schmuck of Mifflintown; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Ed was a 1946 graduate of Tuscarora Valley High School, Port Royal, and was a peacetime veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy.
He retired in 1988 from the railroad signal communications and signal department, after 39 years of service working for PRR, Penn Central and Conrail.
Ed was a member of the Port Royal Presbyterian Church; the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen; 50-year member Union Lodge No. 324 F&AM, Mifflintown; a 50-year member of Lewistown Royal Arch Chapter No. 186; and Juniata County Sportmen's Association.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, gardening, hunting and raising lambs.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 13 at the Port Royal Presbyterian Church, Port Royal with the Rev. Crystal M. Lyde officiating.
Interment will be at Old Church Hill Cemetery in Port Royal.
A viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, on Monday, July 12.
