Freedom School was located in Turbett Township along Route 74, about one mile east of Route 75. It was built in 1885 for a sum of $1,043. It was a one room country school that accommodated the first six grades and had just one teacher.

A biographical sketch of Thomas Stewart (1796-1888) suggests that there were four school houses built at this place over a span of 100 years. If so, the current building is probably the last of the four.
