Arthur Aumiller was the younger of two children of Richard and Julia (Springsteen) Aumiller. After completing his military service, "Art" returned to Port Royal and was the owner of Art's Shop, a men's clothing store located on Market Street near the intersection with Third Street.

Aumiller worked for the United States Post Office for 38 years, serving at Harrisburg, Port Royal and as postmaster at Thompsontown.

Along with John Leidy Sr., "Art" played a major part in the establishment of ambulance service for the community.

"Art", his father "Dick" and sister MaryLou were noted for their love of music. They served as part of the "Get Up Band" in the 1960s and 70s.

He married Shirley Benner and they have three children: Denis, Kathi and Kerry.

OBITUARY for ARTHUR R. ‘ART’ AUMILLER

PORT ROYAL - Arthur R. "Art" Aumiller, 80, of Port Royal, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at his home.

Born Oct. 23, 1932, in Port Royal, he was the son of the late Richard C. and Julia (Springsteen) Aumiller.

He is survived by: his wife of almost 60 years, Shirley (Benner) Aumiller, whom he married on July 4, 1953; three children, Denis Aumiller and wife, Kerry, of Allentown, Kathi Reilley and husband, Doug, of Ambler, and Kerry Aumiller and wife, Betsy, of New Cumberland; one sister, Mary Lou Longenecker Bailor, of Port Royal; and seven grandchildren, Rachel Aumiller, Emily Aumiller and husband, Scott Whipkey, Sean Reilley, Conor Reilley, Samuel Aumiller, Madison Aumiller and Julia Aumiller.

He graduated from Port Royal [Tuscarora Valley] High School in 1951 and worked at Standard Steel until going into the U.S. Army, where he proudly served his country in Germany during the Korean War. He was the owner of Art's Men's and Boy's Clothing Store, in Port Royal, in the late 1960s and served as the Thompsontown postmaster for 38 years.

He was a member of Port Royal Presbyterian Church, where he served as elder, deacon and youth and adult Sunday school teacher. He was a member of Union Lodge 324 F&AM, Harrisburg Consistory, Juniata Valley Forest of Tall Cedars of Lebanon, the Harrisburg chapter of Pennsylvania Polka Dancer's Association, American Legion Post 298 and VFW Post 5863. He was instrumental in organizing the Port Royal Ambulance and very active with the Juniata County Veterans Council.

Art enjoyed building and flying radio controlled model airplanes, polka dancing, golfing with his special friends, Don Gussler, Don Casner and Jerry Cook, crafting stained glass items and tuning pianos. He especially loved spending time with his family.

His funeral will be held at 10 a.m Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at Port Royal Presbyterian Church, corner of Main and Fourth streets, with Pastor Crystal Lyde officiating. Full military honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council. Interment will be held in Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal, at the convenience of the family.

There will be a viewing held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. with a Masonic service conducted by Union Lodge at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Guss Funeral Home Inc., 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Port Royal Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 387, Port Royal, PA 17082.
