OBITUARY for FRENCH C. MCAFEE

REV. FRENCH MCAFEE IS CALLED BY DEATH

Rev. French McAfee, aged 70 years, pastor of the Patton Presbyterian Church for the past 15 years and one of the most prominent clergymen in Pennsylvania died at 4:30 p.m. March 7th, 1934 in the Clearfield hospital, where he underwent a gastro operation a week before.

Although his health had been impaired for the past four months, the Rev. McAfee was able to take charge of his duties as pastor of his church until a few weeks ago, when his condition became so serious that he was removed to the Spangler hospital. He was a patient at that institution for a month and three weeks ago was removed to the Clearfield hospital.

Rev. French McAfee was a son of Azariah Y. and Mary Ann (Kilmer) McAfee, both deceased, and was born in Turbett Township, Juniata County on Feb. 3rd, 1864. He received his early education in the public schools in Turbett Township and later graduated from the Airy View Academy. After completing his studies he matriculated at Harvard and was graduated there in 1887.

Following his graduation at Harvard he attended Boston University for a year and then entered the Theologica1 School at Princeton University. After completing his studies at Princeton, the Rev. McAfee accepted the pastorate of a Presbyterian Church in Albany, Texas, where he remained for several years.

He then accepted a pastorate in Portland, Me., and after serving several years there returned to Port Royal, where he became Pastor of the Presbyterian church. Later he again went to Texas and became pastor of a church in Fort Worth and 15 years ago he returned to the north to become pastor of the Patton Presbyterian church.

He is survived by his widow, Willietta (Andersen) McAfee, and the following children, Joseph, at home; William, an instructor in the Ewing Christian College at Allahabad, India, and John, an instructor in the Altoona High School. He is also, survived by two sisters and one brother, Mrs. A. T. Perkins of Beverly, N. J.; Mrs. W. L. Leonard of Altoona, and James Clark McAfee of Brockton Mass.

Funeral services were held at the home at Patton, Pa. Saturday morning at 9 o'clock conducted by Rev. John Jackson, pastor of the Barnsboro Presbyterian Church, assisted by Rev. Anderson of Cherry Tree, Pa. Interment was made in Church Hill Cemetery, near Port Royal.
