REMEMBERING MARION BEALE
Mrs. Marion Beale worked at the Hotel Royal serving banquets for the Port Royal National Bank and the First National Bank. Julia Aumiller's parents, the Springsteens, had the hotel then. Mrs. Beale said Mrs. Springsteen was a wonderful cook and that the years were probably 1927 and 1928 that she worked there. She made $2 for the day. Marion graduated from Geisinger Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1931. She always knew what she wanted to be - a nurse. The $2 she made at the hotel, she bought material to make a dress. Back to her nursing career. She said work was scarce during the depression and she remembers playing solitaire for days waiting for the phone to ring to go to work. Marion did private duty until she married Frank Beale in 1935. She said when you did private duty in those days, you literally kept the home fires burning. Later Marion became the school nurse for 22 years in Juniata County.
Marion's parents were William T. and Edna Turbett Crimmel from Mexico. Her brothers were Willliam who died in 1939, and George "Pete" A sister Leah, and another brother Arthur both lived in Connecticut.
