OBITUARY for ROSCOE L. HENRY

PORT ROYAL - ROSCOE L. HENRY, 82, of Mifflin, entered into eternal peace at 12:45 a.m., Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at the Lewistown Hospital.

Born on Sept. 15, 1925, in Honey Grove, Juniata County, he is a son of the late Jesse J. and Blanche M. (Kint) Henry, Sr. His wife, Dorothy M. (Walters) Henry, whom he married on Oct. 10, 1947, preceded him in death on Aug. 6, 2005.

Surviving are: two daughters, Barbara K. Slautterback and her husband, Daniel, of Mifflin, Deborah A. Cramer and her husband, Charles, of RR 3 Mifflintown; two sisters, Arlene Anderson, of Carlisle, Donna Stoneberger, of Shermansdale; and he leaves behind six grandchildren, Stacey Lipka, Tina Earnest, Luke Cramer, Angela Bashore, Ashley Cramer, Joseph Slautterback; and four great grandchildren, Bradley Lipka, Hunter Earnest, Hayden Ernest and Miley Hack.

Three brothers, Paul Henry, Jesse Henry, Jr., Robert Henry and four sisters, Dorothy Bender, Katherine Clites, Anise Marshall and Maxine Hosler, preceded him in death.
Mr. Henry was an active member of the Faith Bible Church of Port Royal, the Juniata County Historical Society, the American Legion Post No. 298 and the Crawford Brubaker VFW Post No. 5863, both of Mifflintown.

He was a World War II, U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations.

Roscoe retired in 1988 from the Pennsylvania Department of General Services, Bureau of Buildings and Grounds, Harrisburg, as the division chief, and prior to and during his retirement, he along with his late wife Dorothy, opened and operated Henry's Drive In, Mifflin, which is currently Jack's Drive In.

An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing and hunting as well as gardening. He also enjoyed collecting and restoring antique automobiles, including his late father's 1939 Chevrolet pick-up truck and his late father-in-law's 1968 Plymouth Barracuda; however, his greatest joy came from spending time with his daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, from the Faith Bible Church of Port Royal with his Pastor, Matthew Wenger, officiating. Interment will follow in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown, where the Juniata County Veterans Council will accord full military burial honors.

Family will receive friends from 7 - 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008 at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.
