LaRue Jean Whistler, age 86, of Bristol, VA, went to her Heavenly home during the morning hours of April 9, 2025. She was born on February 27, 1939, to the late Eddie and Dorothy (Hockenberry) Strawser.
[LaRue grew-up in Turbett Township near Port Royal, PA]
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Whistler; and brother, Carl Strawser.
[LaRue was a 1957 Graduate of Tuscarora Valley High School in Port Royal, PA.]
LaRue was a member of Solid Rock Church in Bristol, TN. She was a people person and loved her church family very much. She also loved to crochet and collect butterflies. She will be dearly missed.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Randy Whistler (Amy); granddaughter, Heather Whistler; sister, Donna Kay Dunn (Peter); Pastor, Robert Reed and wife, Rita Reed; and several more close friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Solid Rock Church (2109 Carolina Ave Bristol, TN 37620) beginning at 3:00 PM with Pastor Robert Reed officiating.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who assisted in taking care of LaRue during her time of need.

Persons (L-R) Nellie Landis, Virginia Ard, Nancy Ard, LaRue Strawser, Nellie Landis Taylor (Teacher), Mary Lou Burd, Blanche Leonard, and Joyce Ard. Aunt Nellie wrote in her memoirs the following: "Teachers were in great demand in 1942. Two days before school was to start she was asked to return to O P. in 1943." She started there in 1929.
