George was killed in a motorcyle accident that occured in front of the Hertzler home in Old Port. He died in the Lewistown hospital Jan. 2, 1929, the very day that barn burners burned his family farm in Groninger Valley. His father had to go and inform his mother sitting by his side that the family barn had been totally distroyed, and in turn, she had to tell him that his son had died. George had wanted to become a motorcycle patrolman for the Pennsylvania State Police.
