Major James Thompson died Aug 31, 1875. Aged 32 years.

Major Thompson lived in the house on Market St. across from what used to be the Mariette Shoppe or Odd Fellows Hall. After the war he served as Assistant Cashier of the Port Royal Bank.
He was a brother to Hannah Belle (Alter), who is pictured on this site. Major Thompson had the distinction of receiving the Medal of Honor by capturing the emenies' flag during the Battle of Gettysburg. He is buried in Row 20 of the Old Chuch Hill Cemetery.
