Sarah Rebecca Catherine "Sally" Shirk was born October 25, 1872 in Oakland Mills. She eventually married John Thomas Emery (1868-1955) and together they had the following children: Maude Emery Henderson (1891-1964), Anna Emery Gregg (1893-1915), Johnnie Emery (1896-1897), Leonard "Red" Emery (1899-1989), Sarah Emery Crimmel (1903-1986), Flora Emery Crozier (1906-1987), and Charles Emery (1908-1909)
Sometime between 1920 and 1930, she and John separated. In 1930, she lived with her daughter Flo Crozier and family at 101 Main Street in Port Royal. By 1940, she lived on Milford Street. Her last residence was 230 Tuscarora Street.
Sallie died in Derry Township, Mifflin County. December 18, 1952 and was laid to rest in the Westminister Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.
