OBITUARY for ALMA LEONARD DOUGHTEN

Alma J. Leonard Doughten, 100, of Port Royal, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2025, at Locust Grove Retirement Village surrounded by her loved ones.

Born March 23, 1925, near Port Royal, she was a daughter of the late Thomas C. and Sarah (Bell) Isenberg.

On Oct. 4, 1958, she married her first husband, Lewis A. Leonard who died April 5, 2001. On July 26, 2015, she married her second husband, James R. Doughten who died on May 23, 2020.

She was also preceded in death by her only child, Susan Brown, on Sept 7, 2024, one brother, Harry L. Isenberg, and four sisters, Esther Burd, Mildred Houtz, Martha Stimely, and Bertha Towsey.

Known lovingly as “Meme,” Alma was cherished by her surviving grandchildren, Melissa Chesbro and her partner, Bryan; Michael Eash and his partner, Stephanie;?Jessica Funkhouser and her partner, Nathan;?Jeremy Eash and his wife, Nicole;?and DJ Brown and her ten great-grandchildren, Maranda, Ian, Hayden, Nick, Mackenzie, Ryan, Ashleigh, Leigha, Hailey, and Everett. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Dwaine Brown, Sr.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Mifflintown, and her deep love for the Lord and unwavering faith shaped her life.

She was a seamstress at RaeSel Dress Factory, Port Royal and at Juniata Garment, Mifflin, and then worked as a dietary aide at Locust Grove Retirement Village.

She enjoyed bowling, putting puzzles together, winning at Chinese checkers, and watching football and Penn State basketball

She had a remarkable zest for life that carried her through her century of living with grace, humor and strength. She loved each of her family members and found her greatest joy in watching her family grow. Her memory will forever be a blessing to the family who adored her, and her legacy of love, faith, and joy will continue to live on in every life she touched.

There will be a viewing from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at First Baptist Church, Mifflintown. Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the church with Pastor Sean McGill and Pastor Ron Shupe, officiating. Interment will follow at New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.
