OBITUARY for Judith (Judy) Ann Thompson Carter, 86, of the Masonic Village of Elizabethtown, formerly of Port Royal, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024, surrounded by her family.

Born on November 7, 1938, in Lewistown, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of William Charles and Leona (Deneen) Thompson. Judy had fond memories of growing up in East Waterford and working at the American House. After she experienced the untimely loss of her father in 1955, a moment that shaped her resilience and strength, Judy graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1956.

After high school, Judy worked as a telephone operator at the Navy Supply Depot in Mechanicsburg, where she met the love of her life, Lonzie J. Carter Jr. They married on April 27, 1963, and shared 53 wonderful years together before his passing in 2016.

Judy is survived by her children, Julana Deneen Keiser and husband Jeffrey of Mays Landing, NJ, and Joab Massey Carter and wife Krista of Harrisburg, PA. She also leaves behind four cherished grandchildren: Chelsea Deneen Kryger, Joshua Miles Zook and wife Alyse, Olivia Raquel Carter, and Reese Jackson Carter.

A devoted member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Judy served on the kitchen committee and as a communion aide. She was also a proud member of the Eastern Star, Mifflin Chapter 260. Her community involvement included reading to the blind and volunteering with the Area Agency on Aging and Meals on Wheels. Judy spent much of her time selflessly caring for others.

Judy will be remembered for her compassion, wit, and stoic strength. An avid reader who loved cooking and entertaining, she brought joy to all who knew her. Her dry sense of humor apparent even in challenging moments—like when her car was stolen and burned but led to a new license plate reading “Witzend.” Those that knew her would describe her as a pistol or a spitfire.

A memorial service will be held on January 20, 2025, at Brown Funeral Homes, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Mindy Petrovic. An Order of the Eastern Star service will precede the memorial. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rescue Our Furry Friends (R.O.F.F.), P.O. Box 6, Lewistown, PA 17044.
