OBITUARY for HENRY S. HALDEMAN
Henry S. Haldeman, 101, of Port Royal, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at his residence.
Henry was born in Conewago Twp., Dauphin County PA, on April 22, 1923 and was the son of the late Benjamin W. and Barbara O. (Snavely) Haldeman.
On June 25th, 1949 he married his wife, Arlene S. (Schaeffer) Haldeman who he was blessed to share more than fifty-five years of marriage before her passing on October 1, 2004. Henry is survived by his sons, Harold E. Haldeman and wife, Pamela of Mechanicsburg and Dale A. Haldeman of Port Royal. He is also survived by siblings, John Haldeman, Alice Grady, Samuel Haldeman, as well as grandchildren Jason Barton, Katie Haldeman, Nicole Mitchell, Brian Haldeman, Daniel Haldeman, Dustin Haldeman, Derry Haldeman. His great-grandchildren surviving are Grayson Mitchell, Estelle Mitchell, Gillian Barton, and Alivia Haldeman. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Elaine Ann Haldeman and his siblings, Aaron Haldeman, and Sarah Lehman.
Henry worked in the lime business, first at the Millard Quarry’s then as self-employed truck driver, spreading lime for local farmers. Henry proudly served in the United States Army during World War II, after basic training, he went into the 14th Army Infantry Battalion attached to the First Army Division. During his service, he received both the Purple Heart and 4 Bronze Stars.
Henry was a member of the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, Academia. Earlier in life he was a member of the Coon Hunters Club, he very much enjoyed coon and deer hunting. He also enjoyed looking for and collecting Indian Artifacts.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 16, 2024, at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown with Rev. Joanne Torma officiating. Interment will follow at Academia Cemetery, Academia where full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 AM on Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mr. Haldeman’s memory to the Lower Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, 54 Church Road, Mifflin, PA 17058.
