OBITUARY for STEPHEN DANIEL BAHORIK
Stephen Daniel Bahorik, 86, passed away Monday, June 17, 2024, at his home in Port Royal.
Born April 15, 1938 in Windber, Pa., he was a son of the late Steve and Elizabeth (Soho) Bahorik.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Linda (Wert) Bahorik, whom he married June 11, 1960, two children, Stephen James Bahorik and wife, Brenda, of Port Royal, and Betsy Lynne Aumiller and husband, Kerry, of New Cumberland, one brother, Dr. Wesley Bahorik and wife, Claudia, of Birdsboro, three grandchildren, Samuel Aumiller and wife, Lindsey, Madison Fitzhenry and husband, Will, and Julia Rae Aumiller, and two great-grandchildren, Caden James Aumiller and Owen Arthur Aumiller.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Michal Elizabeth Gayer.
He graduated from Shade Township Central City Joint High School, Cairnbrook, and from Juniata College. He received his Masters of Education degree with an emphasis on Biological Science from Penn State University.
He taught biology, general science, and earth science at Juniata High School and was the athletic director.
He received his principal’s certification from Penn State University and served as principal at Lack Tuscarora, Tuscarora Valley and Walker Elementary Schools.
Stephen was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church where he served as former president and member of the church council. He taught Sunday school for 30 years.
After retiring, he wrote for the Times Newspaper for two years and also for the Common Ground Magazine for several years.
He played guitar in several bluegrass bands and for the Strung Out Dulcimer Band.
He was also active in the antiques and collectibles business.
He enjoyed fishing, mushrooming, photography, writing and repairing and restoring antique books. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, family and many friends.
In the last several years of his life, he wrote and published A Genealogy of the Shirks of Van Wert, PA and also The Least and The Apprentice, both spiritual poems.
His memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 29 at Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown, with Rev. Samuel Leister, Rev. Dr. Glenn Webb, and Rev. William Esborn officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church.
The family will provide all flowers and requests that memorial contributions be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, 3 S. Third St., Mifflintown, PA 17059.
