OBITUARY for IRA W. SHEERER
Ira W. “Bill” Sheerer, 79, of 404 Village Drive, RR1 Mifflintown, and formerly of Centre, died Tuesday, October 26, 1999 at home.
Born March 19, 1920 in Van Dyke, he was the son of the late Brehman and Lizzie Derickson Sheerer.
His wife, Lovina Bossler Sheerer, whom he married January 12, 1946, survives.
Also surviving are: a son, Erick F. Sheerer of Lancaster; one brother, Edward E. Sheerer of Longwood, Florida; five sisters, Alma O. Becker of Mexico, Alice L. Gilson of Port Royal, Esther E. Dumm and Patricia A. Niemond both of Lewistown, and Shirley A. Naylor of Shiremanstown.
Preceding him in death were: three brothers, Charles E Sheerer, Jay E. Sheerer, Henry D. Sheerer; and one sister, Mary S. Herbster.
Mr. Sheerer was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the European Theatre during WWII.
He was a supervisor from 1947 to 1957 at the General Motors BOP Assembly Plant, Wilmington, DE. He worked as a millwright at the American Can Company, Lemoyne, retiring in 1983 after 25 years of service.
Mr. Sheerer was a member of Centre Lutheran Church; and Newport Royal Arch Charter 238.
Memorial services were held Saturday, October 30, at Centre Lutheran Church, Mifflintown RR2, with the Rev. Claude R. Baublitz officiating. Interment was in Thompsontown Lutheran Cemetery, where a military service was conducted by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
Guss Funeral Home, Mifflintown, was in charge of the arrangements.
