OBITUARY for RONALD F. SMITH

Ronald F. Smith, 78, of Port Royal, went to Heaven on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born May 10, 1943 in Newport, he was a son of the late Cyrus Alfred and Mary Eleanora (Sundy) Smith. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Cyrus Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Linda K. (Leonard) Smith, whom he married 57 years ago on June 21, 1964, three children, Sherry Bowersox and husband, Michael, of Port Royal, Candace Bond of Port Royal, and Ronald Scott Smith of McAlisterville, one sister, Martina Schade of Shiloh, nine grandchildren, Bridget Rapp, Emily Shirley, Breanna and Micah Harbst, Collin and Chase Smith, Jordan Bond, Hali and Gabriel Homer, nine great-grandchildren, Toby Rapp, Greyson and Laura Shirley, Kinsey Harbst, Alex and Jacob Williamson, Isaiah Waltier, and Myelyn Bowersox.

He graduated from Newport High School and served in the PA Army Reserves from1964 to 1969.

He was a coremaker at Bethlehem Steel in Steelton for 24 years until the foundry closed. Then he worked at Carolina Freight as a dock worker until he was injured by a fire.

He is a member of First Baptist Church, Mifflintown.

When he was able, he loved to hunt. More recently, he enjoyed gardening, camping and following his favorite teams, the Steelers and Penn State. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially with his kids and grandkids. He also loved his dogs.

His service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at First Baptist Church of Juniata County, 23964 Rt 35 N, Mifflintown, with Pastor Ronald Shupe and Pastor Caleb Hanna officiating. Interment will follow in Adams Cemetery. There will be no viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors Inc., 1117 Country Club Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
