OBITUARY for DOROTHY ROMAINE VARNES

Dorothy R. Varnes, age 90, of Newark, DE, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023, after a short illness.

Born in Lewistown, PA on August 23, 1933, she was the daughter of Wesley and Dorothy Bardell.

Dorothy graduated from Tuscarora Valley High School [Class of 1951] in Port Royal, PA.

She married Donald Varnes in 1951 and later became the receptionist, secretary and bookkeeper of Donald G. Varnes Hardwood Floors for many years.

She was also a long-time member of the White Clay Creek Presbyterian Church.

Dorothy is survived by her 4 sons, Garry (Joanne), Steve (Valorie), Edward, Allen (Tracy); daughter, Janet Sanders (Stan); 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Joan (Bob) Weiand of Mechanicsburg, PA, Robert Bardell (Doris) of Manheim, PA and Donald Bardell of Littleton, CO.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1 pm until 2 pm on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at White Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, 15 Polly Drummond Hill Road, Newark, DE, where a celebration of life will begin at 2 pm. Interment will follow in White Clay Creek Presbyterian Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy’s name to the White Clay Creek Presbyterian Church at the address listed above.

	Contributed by rkohler3 on 7/8/16 - Image Year: 2016 CELEBRATE 65TH ANNIVERSARY Don and Romaine (Bardell) Varnes celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary at their home in Newark, Delaware, with forty guests present. They were married in the Port Royal Presbyterian Church by Reverend Eugene McCahan on June 9, 1951. They are the parents of five children, Janet (Varnes) Sanders, Garry, Steve, Alien, and Edward, all of Delaware. They have twenty grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Don is retired from Varnes & Sons Hardwood Floors.
