Elizabeth W. Purnell, 93, of Ocean City, N.J., formerly of Springfield, died April 10  at Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point, N.J.
Born in Port Royal, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Grover Wolfgang and Mary E. Walters.
After graduating from Albright College in 1935 and earning a master's degree in special education from the University of Pennsylvania in 1967, she eventually worked as a teacher in the Upper Darby School District. She also worked as a dietician at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park before moving to New Jersey.
Mrs. Purnell served in the Army during World War II in Germany. She attended Swarthmore United Methodist Church since 1943.
She was the widow of Theodore L. Purnell Sr.
Survivors: Son, Theodore L. Purnell Jr. of Hammonton, N.J. daughters, M. Suzanne Conrad of Stone Harbor, N.J., Elizabeth E. Landon of Clayton, Del., Ruth E. Cottingham of Delran, N.J. 12 grandchildren seven great-grandchildren.
Service: 11 a.m. today at Swarthmore Methodist Church.
Burial: Eastlawn Cemetery, Swarthmore, Delaware Co., Pa
