OBITUARY for DONALD V. ‘BEANIE’ DELANCEY SR.
Donald V. "Beanie" Delancey, Sr., 86, of Mifflintown, passed away, surrounded by his family at 2:07 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born on Aug. 19, 1928, in Spruce Hill Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Harris M. and Anna E. (Longacre) Delancey. On Aug. 26, 1950, he married his surviving wife, Gloria D. (Guyer) Delancey, with whom he shared more than 64 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: his children, Jean Weiand and her husband, Allen, of Mifflintown, Donald Delancey Jr. and his wife, Peg, of Thompsontown, Timothy Delancey and his wife, Barb, of Burnham, Mark Delancey and his wife, Maryann, and Jill Baumgardner and her husband, Steve, all of Licking Creek, and Laura Swartz and her husband, Steve, of Port Royal; a son-in-law, Thomas "Mel Thomas" Mellan, of Mexico, Pa.; siblings, David H. Delancey and his wife, Marie, of McAlisterville, Stella Hepner and her husband, Harvey, of Mifflintown, and Barbara J. Frankenberry, of Richfield; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: one daughter, Judith A. Mellan; three brothers, H. Russell Delancey, Arthur Delancy and Thomas Delancey; and two sisters, Patricia Weiand and Wilda Stanford.
He was a member of the Arch Rock United Methodist Church, Mifflintown. He was a former member and past president of the American Legion Post No. 298 and former member of the Crawford-Brubaker VFW Post No. 5863, both of Mifflintown, and former member and first president of the Juniata County Sportsman's Association.
During World War II, he proudly served his country with the U.S. Army.
Mr. Delancey was a mechanic and heavy equipment operator for several construction companies before his retirement.
Don enjoyed gardening, tending to his lawn and feeding and watching the many birds that came to his bird feeders. However, his most enduring legacy will be the love he had for his family.
Services will be private and will be held at the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Joseph N. Yorks officiating.
Interment will be in East Salem Cemetery, where full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
