OBITUARY for NANCY JANE (BAUER) WOLFGANG

Nancy Jane (Bauer) Wolfgang, 93, formerly of Port Royal, passed away at 4:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021, at the Sunrise Senior Living in Exton.

Born on June 16, 1928, in Chester, Delaware County, she is a daughter of the late Louis Robert and Jane (Anderson) Bauer.

On Sept. 19, 1950, she married Grover E. Wolfgang Jr., with whom she was blessed to share over 53 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on June 25, 2004.

She is survived by her children, Jane Wolfgang-Price and her husband Dr. James Price of Downingtown, Dr. David Wolfgang and his wife Dr. Ann Shallcross of Pennsylvania Furnace, and Rev. James Wolfgang and his wife Rev. Judith of Fulton, Ky.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn McCray; her husband Curtis; and her brother, Robert Bauer and his wife Jane.

Nancy was a 1947 graduate of Chester High School and a 1950 graduate of Bryn Mawr Hospital School of Nursing. During her professional career, she worked as a nurse at Black?s Community and Lewistown Hospitals. Later, she joined the staff at Brookline Manor and eventually served as director of their nursing staff. After completing her certificate as a nursing home administrator, she worked for many years for Tressler Lutheran Services and ended her working career as director at Thornwald Home in Carlisle.

Her memberships included the Port Royal United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Choir, Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 260 in Mifflintown, the Mifflin-Juniata Business and Professional Women, the Port Royal Planning Commission, and in earlier life was a Cub Scout Leader and active in the Tuscarora PTA.

She also enjoyed nature study and was one of the original members of the Towpath Naturalist Society which was active in Mifflin-Juniata region.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021, at the Port Royal United Methodist Church, 105 Fifth St., Port Royal, with her son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. James Wolfgang and the Rev. Judith Wolfgang officiating. Interment will follow at Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.

A viewing will be held from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral services at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Wolfgang?s memory can be made to the Port Royal United Methodist Church, 105 Fifth St., Port Royal, PA 17082; the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, 1700 Hawk Mountain Road, Kempton, PA 19529, or to the Juniata County Food Pantry, P.O. Box 44, Mifflintown, PA 17059.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.
