OBITUARY for RUTH M. HATTER

Ruth M. Hatter, 80, of Port Royal, died at 3:02 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, at her home.

Born July 10, 1934, in Hershey, Dauphin County, she was a daughter of the late Chester S. and Ruth (Clifton) Shope. On April 20, 1963, she married her late husband, George G. Hatter, with whom she spent more than 50 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on June 22, 2013.

Surviving are: her children, Kenneth E. Hatter and his wife, Tina, of Lewistown, Douglas K. Hatter and his wife, Karlena, of Mifflintown, Maria J. Hommes and her husband, Gary, of Port Royal, and Kelly E. Beers and her husband, Mark, of Liverpool; siblings, Betty L. Seitz and her husband, Kermit, and Jack Shope, all of Hummelstown, Patsy Sickenberger and her husband, Arden, of Yakama, Washington, and Carol Houser, of Etters; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: one son, George G. Hatter Jr.; a brother, Louis Shope; and four sisters, Esther Duncan, Rhea Nesbit, Edith "Peck" Zellers and Virginia Brenberger.

Mrs. Hatter was a 1952 graduate of Hummelstown High School, a homemaker and an active member of the Rock Assembly of God Church, McCoysville, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, church pianist and loved planning all of the holiday events of the church.

Ruthie had a gift of music, being accomplished at playing the piano, organ, guitar and the accordion. She loved decorating for the holidays, collecting dolls and cherished the time she spent with her dog, Kami.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, at the Rock Assembly of God Church, McCoysville, with Pastor Jack Weaver officiating. Interment will be private at the New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.
