Barney Gray initiated an annual Sprint Car Drop as a way to bring in the New Year. Barney organized the first drop for December 31, 2008 to bring in 2009. It has been an annual event since then. A car that is hoisted on a construction crane high above the town is dropped to the ground at the stroke of midnight. The event occurs just off of Milford Street near the south end of the race track.
