A variety of photos along the route of the Tuscarora Valley Railroad. (Although most of these photos are not from Port Royal, the TVRR was so influential in the history of the town, the photos deserve to be included on this Port Royal site.)

This shows the route of the Tuscarora Valley Railroad along with extensions that were never completed. (From George Pierson, Tommy Varner’s Red Rooster: A History of the Tuscarora Valley RR (Mifflintown, PA: JCHS, 1995), p. 19.)

TUSCARORA VALLEY RAILROAD as it paused in Turbett Township on the Kelly McLaughlin Farm so that this photo could be taken by Howard Bowers. Two passenger coaches were attached as the train came to Port Royal to load with passengers for either Leonard's Grove or Schmittel's Park. Conductor John Neil can be seen in the open door of the baggage car. (Photo submitted by Wayne Taylor)

CONN STORE IN SPRUCE HILL: There is some type of public gathering in front of the Conn Store in Spruce Hill. The tracks of the TVRR are visible in the right foreground of the picture. Apparently there is little concern that the train might appear. (Note that the ties do not appear to be very uniform.) (Photo submitted by Wayne Taylor)

A Tuscarora Valley RR engine somewhere near Spruce Hill Township about 1934. Professor George Pierson believes that this is TVRR's last #3, a 4-4-0 engine and the last engine on the line in operation. He believes that is almost certainly one of a series of photos of a scrap train in 1934 used to pull up rail and haul everything to Port Royal.

TRAIN HITS A COW: This accident occurred on Sept. 6, 1909 near Fort Bingham and Warble. The train hit a cow owned by Harvey Book. The engine, tender and three lumber loaded flat cars were derailed. The left side of the cab was crushed, trapping Engineer, Ritnor Taylor, who died a week later of injuries suffered in the accident. (Note the wooden under-frame of a flatcar being kept in place with logs.) (Photo submitted by Wayne Taylor)
