OBITUARY for RICHARD H. PETERS

PORT ROYAL - Richard H. Peters, 84, of Main Street, Port Royal, died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born June 19, 1927, in Belleville, he was a son of the late Edward and Margaret (Haffley) Peters. His wife, Arlene (Page) Peters, preceded him in death on Sept. 20, 2004.

He was also preceded in death by five brothers and one sister, Donald Peters, Lewis Peters, Owen "Nope" Peters, Paul Peters, Robert F. Peters and Dorothy Fultz.

Surviving are: one son, Richard L. "Rick" Peters and wife, Audrey, of Mifflintown; three sisters, Miriam Colpetzer and Reba Brannon, of Lewistown, and Bernice Lannon and husband, Gilbert, of Mount Ridge, Kan.; one brother, William Peters and wife, Alverta, of Huntingdon; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Peters was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He retired in 1989 from Standard Steel Corp., Burnham, as a crane operator. He was a member of Port Royal Lutheran Church and was an avid Phillies fan.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Rex Funeral Home, 308 Market St., Port Royal, with the Rev. Charles L. Hershberger officiating. Viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal, with graveside military services conducted by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
