OBITUARY for BARBARA L. HERR MITCHELL

PORT ROYAL - Barbara L. Mitchell, 70, of Port Royal, and formerly of Lancaster, died at 5:15 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at her home.

Born July 9, 1942, in Lancaster, Lancaster County, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin M. and Margaret (Burkhart) Herr.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, David L. Dickel. On June 12, 1996, she married her surviving husband, Lloyd A. B. Mitchell Jr., with whom she shared more than 16 years of marriage.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by: a daughter, Denise L. Habecker and her husband, C. Terry, of Lancaster; two stepsons, Lloyd A. B. Mitchell III, of Seattle, Wash., and Benjamin J. Mitchell, of Lancaster; one brother, Lawrence Herr, of Lancaster; two grandchildren, Alexandria L. Habecker and Christian D. Habecker, both of Lancaster; and two stepgrandchildren, Lloyd A. B. Mitchell IV, and Emily A. B. Mitchell, both of Seattle, Wash.

One sister, Judith Soders, and two brothers, David Herr and Mitchell Herr, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Mitchell was a 1960 graduate of J. P. McCaskey High School, Lancaster, and she was fanatical about being a Philadelphia sports fan. She also loved dirt track racing, sewing and crocheting.

Barbara had been employed by Kohl's Department Store.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, in the Appenzeller Chapel of the First United Methodist Church, 29 E. Walnut St., Lancaster.

A gathering of Barbara's family and friends will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at the American Legion Post 298, on the corner of Main and Cedar Streets, Mifflintown.

The Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, have been entrusted with the arrangements.
