MIFFLINTOWN - Penn H. Snyder, 87, of Rockville, Mifflintown, died at 8:20 a.m., Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at his home.
Born Nov. 9, 1924, in Turbett Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Howard F. and Sara V. (Hockenberry) Snyder. His wife of nearly 61 years, Margaret C. "Peg" Snyder, whom he married on Dec. 15, 1945, preceded him in death on May 15, 2006.
Mr. Synder is survived by his daughter, Patty Ann Worrall and her companion, Larry Stone, of Mifflintown, and several nieces and nephews. Patty Ann cannot thank her cousin, Cheryl Zook, and her granddaughters Jessica and Richelle enough for all of the love and care that they have shown to her parents over the years.
Mr. Synder was preceded in death by: one granddaughter, Lori A. Worrall Brackbill; son-in-law, Clark M. Worrall; three brothers, Harry Snyder, John Snyder, Robert Snyder; and three sisters, Dorothy "Dot" Dunn, Mary I. Portzline and Betty R. Fultz, making him the last of his generation.
He proudly served his country in the European Theater in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Snyder was a life member of the Mifflintown Hose Co, a life member of the City Hook and Ladder and a life member of the Junction Fire Co. He was also a member of the Crawford-Brubaker VFW Post 5863, American Legion Post 298, both of Mifflintown, the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge 1173, Selinsgrove, and he faithfully served on the Juniata County Veterans Council military burial detail.
In 1947 he started his career with the Pennsylvania Railroad, and in 1989 he retired with 42 years of service from Conrail. During his retirement he worked for the Mifflin Beer Distributor.
Penn loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and a NASCAR race fan.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with Mr. Donald W. "Saint" Prye officiating. Interment will follow in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown, where the Juniata County Veterans Council will accord full military burial honors.
Viewing will be held at 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at the funeral home.
