OBITUARY for CHARLES M. SNYDER

Charles M. Snyder, 76, of Hublersburg, died Thursday, May 19, 2005 at his home.

Born November 14, 1928 in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Daniel Thomas and Edith May Lees Snyder.

He was married to Donna Walker in 1959 in Pleasant Gap, who survives at home.

Also surviving are: daughter, Kimberly Derr and husband David of Hublersburg; three sons: Rickie and wife Cindy of Julian; Robert and wife Lisa of Bellefonte and James and wife Denice of Julian; two sisters, Mary Macialek of Bellefonte and Virginia Schmelter of Houston, TX; grandchildren Jeremy and fiance Melissa Johnson, Brandon, Ryan, Cassie, David, Ashley, Brittany, Chelsea and Mackenzie.

Preceding him in death were three half sisters, Mary Phillips and Margaret Snyder, and a brother, Thomas.

He was a 1947 graduate of Tuscarora Valley High School, Port Royal, and he attended William and Mary College from 1955 to 1956.

Charles was a Korean Conflict veteran, serving on Hill 947 from 1951 to 1952. He was a recipient pf the Korean Defense Medal with four bronze stars, United Nations Defense Medal, the South Korea Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

He began his military duty in 1950 as a recruit in San Diego. In 1951, he served in the 3rd Inf. Bn., Camp Pendelton. From 1951 to 1952, he was in the E. Co 2nd Bn. 7th Reg., 1st Marine Div., Camp Pendelton and from 1954 to 1957, he was in the Marine Supply Depot, Portsmouth, VA.

Charles was a machine gunner and engineer achieving rank of Sgt.

He worked at Cerro Metals of Bellefonte, retiring in 1990 after 29 years of service.

Mr. Snyder was a life member of the Marine Corps League, American League and the Walker Township Fire Co. He was a charter member of the Nittany Valley Lions Club.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and loved time spent with his grandchildren.

Funeral services was held Tuesday, May 24 at the W. Robert Neff Funeral Home, Howard, with Rev. Paula Curtis-Burn officiating. Burial followed in the Hublersburg Cemetery, Walker Township, where full military honors were accorded.
