OBITUARY for CHARLES L. HOCKENBERRY SR.

MIFFLINTOWN - Charles L. Hockenberry Sr., 78, of Mifflintown, died at 4:42 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born on Nov. 23, 1932, in Turbett Township, Juniata County, a son of the late Earl T. and Goldie R. (Arentz) Hockenberry.

His wife, Betty L. (Cummings) Hockenberry, whom married on July 27, 1953, survives.

He is survived by three sons, Gary L. Hockenberry and wife Ruth, of Thompsontown, Charles L. Hockenberry and wife Holly, of Port Royal, and David L. Hockenberry and wife Joyce, of Mifflintown; siblings, Mary McLaughlin, of Port Royal, Thomas Hockenberry, of Port Royal, Tony Hockenberry and wife Ruth, of Newport, Brenda Boone and husband Ben, of Honey Grove, Jean Baney and husband, Bill, of Port Royal; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Earl P. "Erk" Hockenberry, on May 15, 1982.

Charles was a heavy equipment operator for Hempt Brothers Construction Co., Camp Hill. He was a United States Air Force Korean Veteran. He was a member of the Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church, Mifflintown; a life member of the Mifflin Fire Co., Mifflin; Juniata County Sportsmen's Association; the Union Cemetery Association; former member of the Juniata Fire Police Association; past Deputy Director of the Juniata County Emergency Management Agency and was an active member of the Four Seasons Senior Center, Mifflintown.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Steven D. Munger officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Walker Township.

The viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, at Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
