Carol May Short was a daughter of Samuel and Rachel Brown Short. She was born in Harrisburg, PA, May 26, 1927.
During World War II, May played softball for the Walker Township Hornets. She was good enough as an outfielder to be drafted by a Lewistown VFW team. The same team drafted Dot Gilson Baker, a second baseman,
May married Harold T. Lootens.
May and Harold had four children: Janet, Linda, Diane, and Carol.
