Jeanie Lou Wert, 72, of Port Royal, passed away Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017, at her home.
She was born Sept. 2, 1944, in Honey Grove.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, James L. Wert, whom she married Jan. 11, 1963; four children, David J. Wert and wife, Daisy Yu, of Plano, Texas, Daniel G. Wert, of Port Royal, Amy D. Wert, of Mifflintown and her fiance, Jason Borhman, and Teresa M. Campbell, of Vass, N.C.; brother, Michael Palm and wife, Phyllis, of Lewistown; sister, Philena JoAnna Harrison, of Cross Keys; three grandchildren, Ali D. Wert, Brandyn T. Campbell and Summer V. Campbell; and one great-grandson, Locklyn K. Bradham.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Philena (Palm) Kiner and her maternal grandparents, Sylvester Monroe and Edna (Kirk) Palm.
Jeanie graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1962. She worked as a seamstress in Rae-Sel Sewing Factory in Port Royal, at JVB and Horizon Banks, in the store at the East Salem Shirt Factory, at Dr. Gary Trout’s office and in the District Magistrate office for Jackie Leister. Her full-time job was being a wife, mother and grandmother.
She was a member of the Port Royal Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and was a founding member of McCullochs Mills Memorial and Historical Association.
She enjoyed sewing and especially spending time with her family.
A memorial service for Jeanie will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26, at the Port Royal Lutheran Church, 402 Market St., Port Royal, with the Rev. Charles Hershberger officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the services on Sunday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Port Royal Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 67, Port Royal, PA 17082, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
