Ruth Settlemyer, 85, of Main Street, Port Royal, died at 2:00 a.m. Sunday, October 26, 2003, at Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, Lewistown.
She was born November 8, 1917 at Hazelton, the daughter of the late Irvin G. and Vera [Bock] Koch. Her husband, George L. Settlemyer, whom she married June 26, 1943, survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. William [Vera S.] Barker, Winchester, VA; one son, Clifton G. Settlemyer, Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was a retired school teacher with 20 years of service. She taught junior high at Bethlehem, PA, kindergarten in Thompsontown and elementary at Tuscarora Valley Elementary School, Port Royal.
She was a 1935 graduate of Liberty High School, Bethlehem, and a graduate of Penn State University. She had postgraduate study at Syracuse University, NY and the University of Wisconsin.
She was a member of Port Royal Lutheran Church, Delta Kappa Gamma Women’ s Teachers Society, the Alpha Lambda Delta and Pi Lambda Theta Scholastic Honorary Societies of Penn State University, Port Royal Literary Guild, Port Royal Book Club and helped with Meals on Wheels.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Port Royal Lutheran Church, Port Royal with Rev. Clifford R. Miller Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal. A viewing was scheduled for 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal.
