OBITUARY for JEAN STUTTS GRONINGER

[Wilhelmina] Jean Stutts Groninger of Groninger Valley, loving wife and nurturing mother, went to her rest on Saturday, May 7, 2005 at SCCI in Harrisburg following a twenty-year battle with diabetes and cancer.

She was born on December 15, 1930, a daughter of the late Lucian B. and Eisa [Nestler] Stutts.

Jean was an active member of the Port Royal Evangelical Lutheran Church for many years, and will be remembered by many working the steam table at the church stand of the Port Royal Fair. She also was active in local politics, serving on the county planning commission, running for elected office on two occasions and filling a number of positions in the local Republican Party. She graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1948, and always was active in planning the class reunions.

Jean is survived by her husband of fifty-seven years, Don Russell Groninger, her two sons Dr. Don Stephen Groninger, Daniel Scott Groninger and his wife Lliane, her sister Evelyn "Sis" Stutts Switzer, and brother Lucian "Jack" Stutts.

She was preceded in passing by her brothers Frank Stutts and Robert Stutts, and her sister Dorothy "Babe" Stutts Hambright.

In addition to her volunteer work, Jean was a farm wife, and most recently retired from her position as an administrative assistant to Representative Dan Clark.

Graveside services were held Monday, May 9, in Adams Cemetery, Mifflintown RR4 with her nephew Rev. Terry Smith and her pastor Rev. Carol Hertler officiating.

Memorial offerings may be made to the American Cancer Society, 26 North Brown St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., Mifflintown.
