OBITUARY for GLENN E. "SKIP" BITTING

Glenn E. "Skip" Bitting, 90, of Valley View Terrace, Belleville, and formerly of Lewistown, passed away at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, 2020, at Geisinger-Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

Born Aug. 19, 1930, in Liverpool, Perry County, he was a son of the late Miles and Sally (Shetterly) Bitting.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his brothers, Lehman, Park and Guy Bitting; sister, Mabel Reisinger; and daughter-in-law, Diana Bitting. He was the last of his immediate family.

Glenn is survived by: wife, Phyllis (Bargo) Bitting, whom he married March 1, 1952; children, Jo Ellen Miller and husband, Dennis Sr., of Towson, Md., Carol Bitting, of Lewistown, Mark Bitting, of Carlisle, Kimbra Leister and husband, Randy, of Lewistown, and Jeff Bitting and wife, Cathy, of Lewistown; 11 grandchildren, Dennis Miller Jr., Christian Miller, Peter Miller and wife, Molly, Thomas Miller and wife, Charmaine, Joseph Miller and wife, Danielle, Alex Bitting, Olivia Bitting, Jason Leister and wife, Erin, Eric Leister and wife, Olivia, Scott Bitting and wife, Shelby and Lauren Bitting; and eight great-grandchildren, Ellie, Calvin, Philip, Gracie, Kylee, Jaxson, Brooks and Piper.

He graduated from Tuscarora High School, Juniata County, Class of 1949.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from March 1952 to Feb. 1954.

Glenn and Phyllis attended Maitland Church of the Brethren, where they were married.

He was employed as a truck driver for several local companies and was a Teamsters member.

Glenn loved his large family and enjoyed spending time with everyone, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He hunted in his earlier years and loved his pets. Glenn was a devoted Philadelphia Phillies and Jeff Gordon racing fan.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Private interment will take place at Juniata Memorial Park, with military honors by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown.

Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Burnham, is in charge of arrangements.
