Nellie Landis was the younger of two daughters of Ralph and Ruth (Varnes) Landis. She was graduated from Tuscarora Valley High School in the class of 1956. She was married to Donald Max Wharton and J, Glenn Sorensen. She has lived much of her adult life in Arizona.
Nellie worked for the Pennsylvania State Grange for 10 years before moving to Mesa, Arizona where she began her employement with Mesa Public Schools. She retired from Mesa Public Schools in 1993 as Supervisor of Property Management/Customer Service Representative. Moved to Washington State where her husband Glenn was School Superintendent. When he retired they moved to Flagstaff where they presently live. (2011)
