Donald L. Long (1918-1973) and Verda Lucille Leonard, Long (1922-1994) resided on Main Street, Port Royal. They had a daughter Dixie Lee Long (1943-2010). Dixie married Merle James Ranck, Jr. (1941-2007), and they had a son Brian M. Ranck.

OBITUARY for L. DONALD LONG

PORT ROYAL: L. Donald Long, 55, of Main Street, Port Royal, died Sunday, July 29, [1973] at 9:30 a.m. in his home.

Born April 13, 1918 at Altoona, he was a son of the late William G. and Irma Rupert Long. He was married to the former V. Lucille Leonard.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Merle (Dixie) Ranck of Port Royal; two brothers, Leroy M. Long of Harrisburg and Raymond Long of Bartlesville, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Brooks (Hazel) Kennedy of Port Royal and Mrs. Kenneth (Vivian) Rutter of Altoona; and one grandchild.

Long was a plumber by profession. He was a member and trustee of the Port Royal Methodist Church and a member of Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 520 of Harrisburg.

Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Rex Funeral Home at Port Royal with pastor Robert J. Plant of the Port Royal Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the New Church Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
