OBITUARY for LEONARD E. "RED" EMERY

LEWISTOWN: LEONARD E. "RED" EMERY, 90, formerly of Port Royal. died at 4:45 a.m. Monday [18 SEP 1989] at the William Penn Nursing Center, Lewistown.

Born June 29. 1899, in Oakland Mills, he was the son of the late John T. and Sarah R. (Shirk) Emery. His wife. Hazel D. (Smith) Emery. died Sept. 24, 1985.

Surviving are: daughters, Mrs. Edgar (Phyllis) Leonard and Mrs. Hubert (Alice) Parsons, both of Port Royal. Patricia Schindler, Camp Hill; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by four sisters.

He had been employed at Standard Steel Corporation as a machine operator, retiring in 1973. After his retirement, he was a janitor for the former Tuscarora Valley High School, Port Royal Presbyterian Church and the Juniata Valley Bank, all of Port Royal.

He was a 50-year member of the Port Royal Presbyterian Church and a member of United Steelworkers of America Local 1940.

Services will to held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal with tile Rev. Elaine Fogarty officiating. Interment will be in Old Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
