The Reverend Harvey Walter Webner was born near Gary, Indiana, on January 29, 1901. His childhood days were spent on a small farm two miles west of Hummelstown. He was graduated from Gettysburg College in 1923 and from the Lutheran Theological Seminary, Gettysburg, in 1926, with a Bachelor of Divinity degree. He was ordained by the East Pennsylvania Synod on May 26, 1926. Temple University awarded him a Master of Sacred Theology degree in 1951. While he was a seminarian, H. Walter Webner married Ella Mae Hoffman in the White House on the Gettysburg College Campus.

He served the Port Royal congregations 1926-1943; Advent, York, 1943-1963; Union Deposit congregation, 1963-1966; St. Paul, Sand Hill, 1966-1970. Following his retirement in 1970, he supplied in individual congregations and acted as vice pastor for others.

During the period spent in Port Royal, Pastor Webner was President of the Juniata County Sabbath School Association for several years and County Director of Religious Education. He served as chaplain to the Civilian Conservation Corp Camp at East Waterford and was instrumental in organizing the Leadership Training School in which he taught each year and was dean for several years.

Pastor Webner died May 3, 1972, and was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Arendtsville. He is survived by his widow, who is presently living in Camp Hill.
