Lena "Jackie" Goodman was the daughter of Wilson and Verna (Love) Goodman. She married Harold Miller.
OBITUARY for LENA E. “JACKIE” GOODMAN MILLER
CARLISLE, Lena E. “Jackie” Miller, 72, of Carlisle and formerly of Port Royal, died at 6:20 p.m., on Friday, August 19, 2011 at her home surrounded by her family.
Born on June 20, 1939, in Port Royal, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late W. W. and Verna Z. (Love) Goodman.
On February 28, 1959 she wed her surviving husband Harold L. Miller with whom she shared more than 52 years of marriage.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her children, Gwen A. Pray and her husband Pat of Shermans Dale, Brian L. Miller of New York, N.Y., a brother, William W. Goodman of Kansas City, MO and she leaves behind 2 grandchildren, Olney F. Innerst and her husband Jason of Ickesburg, and Michael P. Pray of New Bloomfield.
One sister, Marjorie V. Goodman, preceded her in death.
In earlier life she worked for the Pennsylvania State Government in Harrisburg, but most of her working life she was employed as a secretary by the Juniata County Agricultural Society of Port Royal.
Mrs. Miller was a member of the Port Royal Lutheran Church, and with her love of camping she spent her summer months at Hidden Valley Camping Resort, Mifflinburg where she attended the church of the camping resort, and with her love of travel she spent her winter months in Lake Wales, Fl, where she attended the Lake Wales Methodist Church.
“Jackie” was an avid reader who was passionate about collecting lighthouses, however her greatest joy came from cooking for and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 from the Port Royal Lutheran Church, 402 Market St., Port Royal with the Rev. Charles Hershberger officiating. Interment will follow in the New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.
Viewing will be from 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday until the time of service at the church.
For those who wish, in lieu of flowers memorial donations in Mrs. Miller’s memory may be made to the Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, 500 University Drive, MCH072, Hershey, PA 17033 or to the Celtic Healthcare of Carlisle, 220 Wilson St., Carlisle, PA 17013.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown.
