Dorothy Margaret "Margie" (ARD) KOHLER
Dorothy Margaret Ard was the eldest child of William and Edith Haines Ard. She was born on February 20, 1911 at the Haines farm at Spruce Hill (Hoffman Farm), and attended Matamoris and Old Port elementary schools. She was graduated from the Port Royal High School in 1929.
In the fall of 1929 Margaret began to work at the Port Royal Spinning (Silk) Mill and continued with this employment until she was married to Darwin H. Kohler on February 20, 1934. This marriage produced one child, Ray Kohler.
Skip and Margaret Kohler "took up" house keeping in the apartment above the A&P store where Skip worked. They lived there from 1936 until 1937 at which time they moved to the Wade Hower house (1967 - Owned by Park Gerhart). They lived here until September 1939 and then moved to the Charles Anders' apartment. It was during their stay at the Ander's apartment that Ray was born on December 23, 1939. From 1944 to 1945 the family lived at the Paul Meloy house (1967 - Owned by Elmer Swab). on January 1, 1945 they moved to the Lucian Boyer farm and remained there till November 1, 1949 at which time they moved to the apartment above the First National Bank.
In 1968 they built a home along the Tuscarora Creek at the edge of the Port Royal Boro. It was there that Margaret Kohler died of cancer on December 13, 1973.
