OBITUARY for GEORGE H. LEAHY, JR.

George H. Leahy Jr. 83, of Mifflintown, passed away at 4:30 a.m., on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at the Bridges at Brookline, Mifflintown.

Born October 9, 1933, in Spruce Hill Twp., Juniata Co., he is the son of the late George H. and Margaret (Williamson) Leahy, Sr. His wife of 18 years whom he married in 1999, Laurel A. (Soder), survives him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Debra Messimer, of Middleburg, David Leahy, of Lewistown, Helen Hill, of Fallstown, MD, Jennifer Peck, of New Bloomfield, Sherry Kint, of Port Royal, Step-daughters, Laurel “Ellie” Smith and her husband John, of Flourtown, Pa., Jennifer Gehers of Port Royal, four sisters, Shirley Diven, Mary Wheeler and her husband Terry, Donna Milliken, all of Mifflintown, Faith Stringer and her husband Bill of Mattawana, four brothers, Jack E. Leahy of York, David C. Leahy and his wife Linda of East Waterford, Harold R. Leahy and his wife Nippy of Brunswick, GA, Kenneth L. Leahy of Wrightsville, 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

Three sons, George L. Leahy, Harry H. Leahy, Michael J. Leahy, a daughter, Roxanne R. Leahy, two grandsons in infancy, Christopher Newton, Tobias D. Smith, a sister, Linda Speicher and two brothers Harry W. Leahy and Charles F. “Fred” Leahy preceded him in death.

George was a self-employed mechanic who also had worked at various local garages and being a mechanic was as much his job as it was his hobby. Real enjoyment for George came from riding his trike, camping, and spending time with his dog, Buddy. 

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 11, 2017, from the Good News Lutheran Brethren Church, Cocolamus, with the Pastor Michael Edwards officiating. Interment will be private.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m., Wednesday until the time of service at the church.
