Betty Jo Miller was the daughter of George "Sam" and Anna (Morgan) Miller of Port Royal. John and Betty Jo McCoy of York celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 3, 2013. They were married in 1963 in Port Royal, Pa. by the Rev. L. Vance Green who also married Betty Jo's parents.

John is the son of the late Jack and Mary McCoy of Philadelphia. John retired from government service after 39 years, 20 of which were in the U.S. Marine Corps. Betty Jo is the daughter of the late Sam and Anna Mae Miller of Port Royal, Pa. She also retired from the Department of Defense after 29 years of service.

They have two married sons John and wife Karen of Hanover, Md., and Mark and wife Cathy of Bluffton, S.C. They also have two grandchildren, Brittani (15) and Jacob (9) of Hanover, Md.

To celebrate their anniversary John and Betty Jo took their family on a cruise aboard the Allure of the Seas and renewed their vows while onboard.

Both John and Betty Jo are members of the American Volksmarch Association and the York White Rose Wanderers and have walked all 50 states, the Canadian Rockies and other cities in Canada, and all 67 counties in Pennsylvania. While living in Germany for six years they walked several European countries. They enjoy traveling and are especially fond of cruising having sailed the Caribbean, Atlantic, Pacific, North Sea, and English Channel in pursuit of new and unusual places to visit. They attribute their lengthy marriage to the love and respect for each other that has grown continuously over the years.
