OBITUARY for JANET L. SHEAFFER GINGRICH

PORT ROYAL - Janet L. Gingrich, 74, of Port Royal, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at her residence.

Janet was born on May 13, 1938 in Lewistown, a daughter of the late W. Clair and A. Jean (Crissman) Sheaffer.

She was the wife of Gary D. Gingrich, to whom she was married 38 years.

She was a 1956 graduate of East Juniata High School and took nursing courses at the Harrisburg Area Community College. Janet retired after 36 years of service from the Lewistown Hospital. She owned and operated the Oriental General Store, with her former husband the late James L. Sarver. Janet was a member of the Port Royal Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Eastern Star, and formerly attended Leininger's Lutheran Church, in Mt. Pleasant Mills.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, shopping, riding motorcycle with her husband and playing the piano.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by: her three children, Greg Sarver and his wife, Sue, of Bloomsburg, Elaine Stella and her husband, Rocco, of Boalsburg, and Stephanie Swartz, of New Cumberland; five grandchildren, Michelle Sarver, Michael and Jennifer Stella, Alexis Swartz and Nicholas Ross; two sisters, Lorraine Troutman, of Millerstown, and Dorothy "Dot" Ackard and her husband, Don, of State College; a brother, Dr. William "Bill" Sheaffer and his wife, Sue, of Beavertown; and nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to the visitation from 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, until the time of the Celebration of Life service at 11 a.m., at the Port Royal Evangelical Lutheran Church, 402 Market St., Port Royal. Officiating will be her pastor, Rev. Charles L. Hershberger. Burial will be made in the Goodwill Cemetery, McAlisterville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in loving memory of Janet to the Port Royal Evangelical Lutheran Church, PO Box 267, Port Royal, PA 17082 or to the American Red Cross of the Susquehanna Valley, 1804 N Sixth St, Harrisburg, PA 17102.

The George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc. 9366 state Route 35, Mount Pleasant Mills, have been entrusted with the arrangements.
