There are two main roads leading into and out of Port Royal.

One is Route 75 which runs mainly north and south. It is this route that crosses the Juniata River and intersects with Route 322, while the other end proceeds down Market Street, crosses the Tuscarora Creek through Old Port and travels south through the Tuscarora Valley toward the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

The other is Route 333 which has a more east and west orientation. In one direction this route proceeds toward Mifflin and in the other direction toward Thompsontown. For about one half mile these two routes merge. The merge area is from the Port Royal side of the Tuscarora Creek to the Village of Old Port.

(The accompanying pictures represent this merged area.)

This photo was taken from the east side of Route 75 as the road crosses Hunter's Run and approaches the intersection with Route 333. The Hertzler home is the red brick house at the center of the photo, The Old Port Dam would have existed to the immediate right of the bridge.
