MELVIN L. DAUGHENBAUGH

PORT ROYAL - Melvin L. Daughenbaugh, 81, of Port Royal, died at 2:15 p.m., Saturday, May 15, 2010, at his home.

Born Dec. 19, 1928, in Millerstown, he is a son of the late Raymond and Myrtle (Sullenberger) Daughenbaugh. His wife, Betty (Towsey) Daughenbaugh, whom he married on Aug. 5, 1950, survives.

He is survived by his sister, Mary Cox, of Thompsontown, and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Daugenbaugh and a sister, Eileen Shipe.

Melvin was a 1947 graduate of Thompsontown High School and attended Penn State College, York for one year. He was also a Korean War veteran, having served in the United States Coast Guard from 1951 to 1954.

He was a member of the Port Royal Lutheran Church, the Friendship Fire Co., Port Royal, American Legion Post No. 298, Mifflintown, the Akron, Ohio Retired Teamsters Club, a past member of the Lost Creek Golf Club and had served on the Port Royal water and sewer authority for many years.

He drove a truck for his father, Sullivan Lines, Kofmans of Bellefonte and Jones Motors, Akron, Ohio for 20 years retiring in 1987 and moving back to Port Royal in July 1988.

Melvin loved animals and was so kind to them.

Funeral services will be private with the Rev. Charles L. Hershberger officiating. Entombment will take place at the Juniata Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, is in charge of arrangements.
